Furniture Delivery in Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti, MI

πŸ“ ZIPs 48103–48108, 48197, 48198 πŸš— About 25–35 minutes west on I-94 πŸ•’ Wed–Sun

From Romulus to Washtenaw County

Our warehouse sits at 6345 Beverly Plaza in Romulus, right by the I-94 and I-275 interchange. Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti are a straight shot west on I-94, and depending on where in town you live and what traffic is doing, the drive runs roughly 25 to 35 minutes. Ypsilanti is the closer of the two. Most of Ann Arbor is reached from the I-94 exits on the south side of town or by way of US-23, and M-14 covers the north side.

That distance matters in two ways. First, it is part of the delivery quote, so an Ann Arbor address will price differently from one in Romulus or Taylor. Second, it makes warehouse pickup a reasonable option if you or a friend has a truck. Pickup works for in-stock items: bring the vehicle, straps and blankets, and our staff will help load. Call ahead so you are not making a half-hour drive for something that sold that morning.

One honest note: a mattress, a dresser or a sofa does not belong on a roof rack on I-94. If your only vehicle is a small car, delivery is the safer call.

Rentals, Walk-Ups and Old Houses

With the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, a large share of the housing near both campuses is rental. That shapes delivery more than anything else here. The common situations we plan for:

Older houses split into apartments

Many of the houses close to both campuses are older homes that have been divided into several units. The upstairs unit is often reached by a narrow interior stair or an exterior stair added later, frequently with a tight turn at the top. These are the deliveries where a full-size sofa causes trouble. Interior doors in older houses also tend to run narrower than modern ones, and plaster walls do not forgive a bumped corner.

Walk-up apartment buildings

Two- and three-story walk-up buildings are common in both cities. Stairwells are usually straight runs with landings, which is easier than a winding house stair, but every landing is a turn, and some stairwells have railings that cut the usable width by a few inches.

Downtown and near-campus apartment buildings

Newer mid-rise and high-rise apartment buildings in downtown Ann Arbor and near campus usually have elevators, and many have rules about using them: reservation windows, required pads, set delivery hours and a specific loading area. Street parking downtown is limited, so where the truck can stop is a real question. The building manager has the answers, and we need them before we schedule.

Single-family neighborhoods

Away from campus, both cities have plenty of mid-century ranches, colonials and newer subdivisions, especially toward the edges of town and into the surrounding townships. These deliveries look much like anywhere else in our area: check the front door, the hallway and any basement stair.

Planning Around Late-Summer Move-In

Many leases in college towns turn over in late summer, and Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti are no exception. That means a lot of people need a bed, a desk and a couch in the same few weeks, often for a unit they have never measured.

  • Get the keys first, then schedule. A delivery booked for a day when the unit is still being cleaned or the previous tenant has not left does not work for anyone.
  • Buy earlier if you can. If you know what you want, buying ahead and picking a delivery day a few days after move-in is easier than calling the week everyone else does.
  • Ask the landlord what is staying. Some units come furnished or partly furnished. There is no point in delivering a bed frame into a room that already has one.
  • Know the building’s move-in rules. Buildings with elevators often limit move-in slots during busy weeks. Book yours and tell us the window.
πŸ’‘ Measure the Unit Before You Sign the Lease If you are touring an apartment, bring a tape measure. Ten minutes recording the door width, the stair turn and the bedroom dimensions saves you from buying a queen bed for a room that only fits a full.

Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti Delivery Checklist

  1. Measure the narrowest point of the whole path. In a split house that is usually the stair turn or the door at the top, not the front door.
  2. Check ceiling height over the stairs. Older stairways often have a low ceiling or a beam over the turn, which blocks a sofa from being stood on end.
  3. Know your sofa’s diagonal depth. It decides whether the sofa can be tipped through a narrow door. Our measuring guide shows how to take it, and the Will It Fit? tool does the math.
  4. Get the building rules in writing. Elevator reservation times, pad requirements, loading area, delivery hours and any contact at the front desk.
  5. Tell us where the truck can stop. A driveway, an alley, a loading zone or a stretch of street. If parking is restricted, say so.
  6. Plan for someone 18 or older to be home. They direct placement and sign. With roommates, decide ahead of time who that is.
  7. Clear the path. Bikes in the stairwell, shoes on the landing and a hallway rug all slow a crew carrying a dresser.
  8. Inspect before you sign. Open drawers, look at corners and note any damage on the paperwork itself.

The Guides Most Useful Here

Many people in Washtenaw County are furnishing an apartment, a first place or a home office, so these are the guides worth reading first:

If you are a homeowner rather than a renter, the living room and dining room guides are the better starting point.

Scheduling and Quoting

Call us at (734) 444-7277 with your address and the items you are buying. We quote delivery per address and per item, so the quote reflects the drive from Romulus and what it takes to get the pieces inside. Tell us on that call about walk-ups, elevator reservations, loading rules or a tight stair, because those details shape the plan.

Delivery days follow our store schedule, Wednesday through Sunday. If certain days are impossible because of classes, work or a building’s move-in rules, tell us and we will work from there. The general process, including what to check on delivery day, is on our Southeast Michigan delivery page. If you live just east of Ypsilanti toward I-275, our Belleville & Van Buren and Canton & Plymouth pages may also be relevant.

Anything you buy through our Amazon or Walmart listings is shipped by those retailers on their own schedule, not by our trucks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you deliver furniture to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti?

Yes. We deliver from our Romulus warehouse into Washtenaw County, including Ann Arbor ZIPs 48103, 48104, 48105 and 48108 and Ypsilanti ZIPs 48197 and 48198. The drive is roughly 25 to 35 minutes west on I-94. Call (734) 444-7277 with your address and the items you are buying and we will quote the delivery for that specific address.

Can you deliver to a third-floor walk-up apartment?

Usually, but tell us when you call. A walk-up changes how long the delivery takes and sometimes which pieces make sense to buy. Measure the stairwell width, the landing at each turn and the apartment door before you choose a sofa or mattress set. Our measuring guide explains how to check a stair turn, and a smaller or modular piece is often the easier answer on upper floors.

My apartment building requires an elevator reservation. What should I do?

Reserve it before we set a delivery day, and ask the building office for the exact rules: which hours deliveries are allowed, whether the elevator needs pads, where the truck can stop and whether there is a loading area. Pass all of that along when you call so we can schedule a day and window that fits the building instead of arriving at a locked dock.

Should I schedule delivery before or after my lease starts?

After you have the keys. Late summer is when many Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti leases turn over, and a delivery booked for a day when you cannot get into the unit is a wasted trip. Confirm your move-in date with the landlord, then call us to schedule. If you can buy a little earlier and pick a day a few days after move-in, you avoid most of the rush.

Can I pick up furniture in Romulus instead and drive it back to Ann Arbor?

Yes, for in-stock items. Our warehouse is at 6345 Beverly Plaza in Romulus, open Wednesday through Friday 11am to 5pm, Saturday 11am to 4pm and Sunday noon to 3pm. Bring a pickup truck, van or trailer that fits the piece, plus straps and moving blankets. Our staff will help you load. Call ahead to confirm the item is on the floor before you make the drive.

Other Areas We Deliver
