Getting From Romulus to Taylor
Taylor sits right next door to us. Our warehouse is at 6345 Beverly Plaza in Romulus, off the I-94 and I-275 corridor, and Taylor starts just to the east. For most Taylor addresses the drive is short — usually well under half an hour, depending on where in the city you are and what traffic is doing on I-94.
The main ways in are the ones you already drive: I-94 along the north side of the city, Telegraph Road running north–south through the middle, and the big east–west roads like Eureka, Ecorse and Pennsylvania. Wayne Road and Middlebelt get you up from the Romulus side. Southland Center on Eureka is a handy landmark if you are trying to describe where you live.
Taylor is one of our busier delivery areas, which mostly means the crews know the layout of the neighborhoods and the kind of houses they will be walking into. It does not mean every job is the same, so we still ask the same questions about every address.
Picking up yourself
Because the drive is so short, a lot of Taylor customers pick up in-stock items themselves. If you have a pickup, a cargo van or a trailer, you can come to the warehouse during store hours — Wednesday through Friday 11am–5pm, Saturday 11am–4pm, Sunday 12pm–3pm — and our staff will help you load. Call ahead so we can confirm the piece is in stock and ready.
Taylor Homes and What They Mean for Delivery
Much of Taylor was built out in the years after World War II, and a lot of the housing reflects that: single-story brick and sided ranches on modest lots, many with full or partial basements, plus some bi-levels and split-levels from the following decades. There are also apartment complexes and condo communities scattered around the city, mostly two- and three-story garden-style buildings.
Postwar ranches
The front door is rarely the problem. The trouble starts inside. Older ranches often have interior doors around 28–30” wide and a short hallway leading to the bedrooms, sometimes with a 90-degree turn right outside the bedroom door. A queen headboard or a large dresser can get through the front door easily and then stall at that hallway corner. If the house has a side door near the driveway, it often opens onto a small landing with the basement stairs going down and a few steps up to the kitchen — a tight spot for anything long.
Basements
Plenty of Taylor families use the basement as a family room, guest room or laundry area, so sectionals, recliners, sleeper sofas and washers end up going down there. Basement stairs in houses of this era are often narrow and steep, with a low header at the top where the floor framing crosses. That header — not the stair width — is what usually stops a tall piece.
Bi-levels and split-levels
You walk in onto a small landing and immediately choose half a flight up or half a flight down. These are easier than they look for most furniture, but the landing itself is short, so long sofas and box springs need to be stood up and pivoted. Measure the landing depth, and measure from the landing to the ceiling.
Apartments and condos
Garden-style buildings usually mean an exterior or interior stairwell with no elevator. Measure the turn at each landing, and tell us what floor you are on when you call.
A Taylor Measuring Checklist
Ten minutes with a tape measure before you buy prevents nearly every failed delivery. For a typical Taylor home, check these:
- Front door with the storm door open. Measure the clear opening, not the door slab. A storm door can take an inch or two off; if it is close, plan to pop the storm door off its hinges.
- Interior hallway width and the bedroom door. Measure the narrowest bedroom door the furniture needs to pass through, and the hallway at the turn.
- Side-door landing. If the crew will use the side door, measure from the door to the first stair and the ceiling height over the landing.
- Basement stair width, headroom and bottom turn. Measure the stair width, the lowest point overhead (usually the header at the top), and whether you turn left or right at the bottom.
- Laundry hookups. For a washer or dryer, measure the space, the door you need to pass through and check whether the dryer is gas or electric before you buy.
- Driveway and walk. In winter, clear and salt the driveway and walk before the truck arrives.
Then compare the narrowest number to the furniture’s diagonal depth — the measurement from the top back corner to the front bottom edge. That is the number that decides whether a tipped sofa will clear a door. Our measuring guide shows exactly how to take it, and the fit checker on our homepage will do the comparison for you.
Guides Taylor Buyers Use Most
Most of what people buy for a Taylor home is a living room set, a bedroom set, a mattress, or something for a finished basement. These are the guides worth reading before you come in:
- Living room furniture guide — sizing a sofa or sectional for a ranch living room, where the TV wall and the front window often compete for the same space.
- Recliner buying guide — wall clearance matters a lot in smaller rooms and in basements with a low soffit.
- Bedroom furniture guide — older ranch bedrooms are often on the small side, so the guide’s clearance numbers around the bed are worth checking before you go king.
- Mattress buying guide — including when a split box spring makes sense for a tight hallway or basement stair.
- Washer and dryer buying guide — for basement laundry, measure the stairs as carefully as the space.
Quotes and Scheduling
Delivery is quoted per address and per item, by phone. Call (734) 444-7277 with your Taylor address and what you are buying, and we will price it before you commit. We do not post a flat rate because one would be wrong for a lot of jobs — a recliner to a ground-floor living room is not the same job as a sectional going down a basement stair.
When you call, tell us about anything that changes the approach: a basement destination, a side-door-only entry, an upstairs apartment, a narrow driveway, or a gate.
Delivery days follow our Wednesday–Sunday store schedule. Someone 18 or older needs to be home to direct placement and sign. Inspect every piece before you sign — open drawers, check corners and legs — and write any damage on the paperwork itself.
One thing to keep straight: products in our Amazon and Walmart listings are shipped by those retailers on their own schedules, not by us. Only furniture bought directly from the Romulus warehouse is delivered or picked up through us. For the full picture of how delivery works across the region, see our Southeast Michigan delivery page. If you live south or east of Taylor, our Downriver delivery page covers those communities.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does furniture delivery to Taylor cost?
We quote every delivery by phone based on the exact address and what you are buying, so we do not publish a flat rate. Taylor is close to our Romulus warehouse, but a single nightstand and a full bedroom set to a basement are different jobs. Call (734) 444-7277 with your address and the items and we will give you the quote before you commit.
Can I pick up furniture myself and drive it back to Taylor?
Yes. In-stock items can be picked up at 6345 Beverly Plaza in Romulus during store hours if you bring a pickup truck, van or trailer that fits the piece. Our staff will help you load. Bring ratchet straps and moving blankets, and call ahead to confirm the item is on the floor before you make the trip.
Will a sectional fit through the door of a Taylor ranch house?
Usually, if you measure first. Many Taylor ranches have exterior doors around 32 to 36 inches but narrower interior bedroom and hallway doors, and a storm door can take a couple of inches off the front entry. Measure the narrowest point on the path and compare it to the sofa's diagonal depth, not its stated depth. Sectionals come apart, which helps a lot.
Do you carry furniture down into Taylor basements?
Tell us when you schedule if a piece is going to the basement, because it changes how the crew plans the job. Measure the stairwell width, the ceiling height over the stairs and any turn at the bottom. A side-door entry that drops straight onto a landing is the most common tight spot, and a box spring or tall headboard is usually what gets stuck there.
What days do you deliver in Taylor?
Delivery days follow our store schedule, Wednesday through Sunday. We are closed Monday and Tuesday. When you call, tell us which days are impossible for you and we will work out a day that fits. Someone 18 or older has to be home to show the crew where things go, inspect the furniture and sign the paperwork.
