The Route From Romulus to Westland
Westland is a straight shot north of us. From our warehouse at 6345 Beverly Plaza in Romulus, the simplest way up is Wayne Road, which runs through the city of Wayne and into Westland. Merriman and Middlebelt are the other north–south options, and I-275 runs up the western side of the area. Depending on where you are — the south end near Wayne or the north end up toward Livonia — plan on roughly 15 to 25 minutes.
Inside the city, the roads people use to describe where they live are Ford Road, Warren, Cherry Hill, Joy and Palmer on the east–west side, and the Westland Shopping Center area at Wayne and Warren is the obvious landmark. Giving us the nearest major cross streets when you call helps us plan the route.
Pickup instead
Westland is close enough that picking up yourself is a real option for in-stock items. Bring a pickup, cargo van or trailer during store hours — Wednesday through Friday 11am–5pm, Saturday 11am–4pm, Sunday 12pm–3pm — and our staff will help load. Call first so we can confirm the piece is on the floor. A sofa will not fit in an SUV with the seats folded, no matter how optimistic the measurements look in the parking lot.
Westland Housing: Ranches and Apartments
Westland grew quickly after the war, and a large share of its single-family homes are 1950s and 1960s ranches — brick or sided, one story, often with a basement and sometimes with an attached garage. The city also has a lot of apartment complexes and condominium communities, more than many of the surrounding suburbs. Those two housing types call for different planning.
The 30-inch door
The detail we mention most about Westland ranches is the interior doors. Many homes of this era have bedroom and bathroom doors around 30” wide, and some closets and secondary bedrooms are narrower than that. Once you subtract the door slab and hinges standing in the opening, the clear width can be closer to 28”. That is fine for a bed, which comes in pieces, but it can stop a deep dresser, an armoire, a tall chest or a one-piece recliner.
The fix is usually simple: take the door off its hinges. Pulling the hinge pins takes a minute and typically gains about an inch and a half. If the crew may need to do that, tell us when you schedule.
Short hallways, tight turns
Ranch hallways are often short and narrow, with bedrooms opening straight off them. That means furniture has to make a turn into the bedroom with very little room to swing. Long pieces — a full-length dresser or a sofa headed for a back bedroom office — have the hardest time. Measure the hallway width and the distance from the bedroom door to the wall across from it.
Apartment complexes and condos
Many Westland apartment buildings are two- or three-story walk-ups with shared stairwells. Elevators are less common in this type of building. For an upper-floor unit, the stairwell landings decide what fits: a sofa has to be raised and pivoted at each turn, and a low ceiling at the landing is often the real limit. Some complexes also have rules about delivery hours or require notice to the office. Check with your management before delivery day and let us know.
Westland Delivery Checklist
Before you buy, take these measurements and write them down:
- Bedroom door clear width with the door fully open. Note whether you are willing to take it off its hinges.
- Hallway width and the distance from each bedroom door to the opposite wall.
- Front door clear width with any storm door open, plus the depth of the porch or stoop the crew stands on.
- Apartment stairwell: stair width, landing depth, ceiling height at each turn, and your unit door.
- Basement stairs if anything is going down: width, headroom at the top, and the turn at the bottom.
- Parking: where a truck can stop, especially in apartment lots with assigned spaces or fire lanes.
Compare the smallest number to the piece’s depth and diagonal depth. Our will-it-fit guide walks through each measurement with diagrams and standard furniture sizes, and the fit checker does the math.
Which Guides to Read First
For smaller ranch rooms and apartment layouts, these are the guides that do the most good:
- Small-space furniture guide — apartment-scaled sofas, storage beds, and how to avoid crowding a living room that doubles as a dining room.
- Bedroom furniture guide — how much space a queen or king actually needs, and how to pick a dresser depth that clears a narrow door.
- Mattress buying guide — useful if a box spring will have to come up an apartment stairwell.
- Home office furniture guide — plenty of Westland ranches have a small third bedroom that becomes the office.
- Best time to buy furniture and appliances — if your timing is flexible.
How Quoting and Scheduling Work
We quote delivery by phone, per address and per item. Call (734) 444-7277 with your Westland address and what you plan to buy. The quote comes before you commit, so nothing changes at the door.
Tell us the things that change the job: an upper-floor walk-up, a door that will have to come off, a basement destination, or a complex with delivery rules. Delivery days follow our Wednesday–Sunday store hours, and we are closed Monday and Tuesday. If certain days are impossible, say so up front.
On delivery day, someone 18 or older needs to be there to direct placement and sign. Inspect everything before signing — open drawers, check legs and corners — and write any damage on the paperwork. Items bought through our Amazon or Walmart listings are shipped by those retailers, not by us.
For the full rundown of how delivery works across the area, see our Southeast Michigan delivery page. If you are on the north edge of Westland, the Livonia page covers similar homes; to the west, see Canton & Plymouth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you deliver to both Westland ZIP codes?
Yes. We deliver to addresses in both 48185 and 48186. The quote depends on the exact address and what you are buying rather than on the ZIP code alone, so call (734) 444-7277 with the address and the items. We will price the delivery before you buy, and tell you if anything about the job needs extra planning.
My Westland ranch has narrow bedroom doors. Will a queen bed fit?
Almost always, because most beds arrive as a headboard, footboard, rails and slats that go together in the room. The pieces to worry about are dressers, armoires and box springs. Measure the bedroom door with the door open, including the hinge side, and compare it to the depth of the dresser. Removing the door from its hinges often gains you about an inch and a half.
I live in a second-floor apartment in Westland. Is that a problem?
No, but tell us when you call. Walk-up buildings mean the crew carries everything up the stairwell, and the landing turns decide what fits. Measure the stair width, the depth of each landing and the ceiling height at the turn. If your complex requires delivery notice or has restricted hours, let us know so we can plan the day around it.
Can I pick up in Romulus instead of having it delivered to Westland?
Yes, for in-stock items. Bring a truck, van or trailer that fits the piece to 6345 Beverly Plaza during store hours, Wednesday through Sunday, and our staff will help you load it. Call ahead to confirm the item is on the floor. Bring straps and moving blankets to protect the finish on the drive up Wayne Road or I-275.
What should I do before the delivery crew arrives?
Clear the full path from the truck to the room: move rugs, wall decor near corners, and anything on the floor of the hallway. Take the old furniture out first. Shovel and salt the walk in winter. Make sure someone 18 or older is home to direct placement, inspect every piece and note any damage on the paperwork before signing.
